How to become a client


Any person who has an HIV diagnosis and resides in NSW is welcome at BGF and can register for our programs. These include financial counseling, any of the Phoenix workshops and Take Control of Your Health. It’s important to note that PLHIV who are employed are encouraged to access these services.

Programs such as financial assistance and No Interest Loans Scheme® target people on low incomes and specific criteria applies including provision of a current Income Statement from Centrelink. Payslips are also acceptable and must be current.

If you would like to access our services, please call us or register online to make an appointment. You can either refer yourself or be referred by someone else who has your permission to do so.

When you come to your first appointment please bring the following documents or post them to us if that is more convenient.

  • proof of identity – what will BGF accept
  • proof of residence in NSW – ditto the above
  • a doctor’s letter confirming your HIV status
  • an Income Statement if you are seeking financial assistance (eg: Centrelink income statement or Payslip)

*NB: When you contact Centrelink, you must specifically ask for an Income Statement, which includes details of your assets.

*NB: South Australian clients are currently only elligible for support with HIV medications and related conditions.

Case Study


Henry met a BGF Caseworker at the Luncheon Club more than two years ago. He was living in a boarding house, English was his second language and he was socially isolated. Henry participated in an intake assessment and it was agreed finding stable housing was an immediate priority. His Caseworker supported a successful application for community housing and connected him to a social group. Henry has maintained a tenancy for over twelve months and is has started a vocational course, which he hopes will lead to employment. 

Your responsibilities

Before you become a client of BGF, you need to sign the client service agreement at your first appointment. Please read through the service agreement to ensure that you are happy with the terms. Client Services Agreement

Once your eligibility is confirmed, you will be allocated a case worker who works with you to identify your current needs, including the level of financial assistance you may be seeking. Financial assistance is not guaranteed because it depends on your circumstances and eligibility.
