When people think of HIV in Australia, their minds often go straight to Sydney, which was the epicentre of the epidemic in the 1980s. But the reality is that HIV doesn’t stop at inner-city Sydney – and neither does BGF.

We’re proud to provide the same compassionate, community-led services in South Australia as we do in New South Wales – in fact, we’ve been working from our Adelaide office since 2016. Whether someone is newly diagnosed, navigating the NDIS or looking for connection and support, our team is here to help.

Meeting the needs of South Australians

South Australia is home to a growing and diverse population of people living with HIV. While national HIV diagnoses have declined over the past decade, 722 new cases were reported across Australia in 2023 and South Australia continues to see new diagnoses each year.

South Australian HIV Strategy 2025-2030

In September 2025, the SA Government launched its HIV Strategy – a bold plan to virtually eliminate HIV transmissions by 2030. The strategy focuses on:

  • Making HIV testing more accessible
  • Expanding access to prevention tools like PrEP and PEP
  • Supporting people living with HIV to live long, healthy lives
  • Tackling stigma and misinformation head on.

BGF was proud to contribute to the development of this strategy, bringing our frontline experience and client insights to the table. We have always believed that no one should be left behind and this strategy reflects that commitment.

What we offer in SA

Just like in NSW, our services in Adelaide and beyond are designed to meet people where they are. Through our practical support, we offer:

  • Case work and care coordination
  • Financial counselling
  • Disability support
  • Health and wellbeing programs and social connections.

We also work closely with local partners and community organisations to ensure our services are available to anyone who needs them.

Local support

HIV doesn’t just affect people in inner-city Sydney. It affects people in Adelaide, in regional towns and in communities across SA. That’s why BGF is here – to walk alongside people living with HIV, wherever they are.

We’re proud to be part of South Australia’s HIV response and we’ll keep working to ensure that everyone has access to the care, support and dignity they deserve.
